What a week! I'm pretty sure my feet will come back down to the ground at some point, but for now I'm just going to float off to bed and dream about the incredible things to come...
This is my first time linking up to, well, anything. Eeek! I made new bathroom passes! I've seen this idea a million times, and I've always thought it was super cute and smart. Then, I started to notice that some of my kiddos came back awfully fast from their trips to the bathroom. So... I created these. My kiddos love them and so do I. So. Very. Much. It's the little things, right? (Thank you Educlips for the clip art! You'll soon see just how much I love it!) I've been catching up on my professional reading in the last few weeks. This week, I'm devouring The Book Whisperer while on the elliptical each morning and trying to squeeze in a chapter of Ditch That Textbook here and there. I'm also working on Teach Like a Pirate. I know that all of these books are old news to everyone else, but seeing as I've been dead to all things professional development over the last couple of years... I'm getting there. I'm loving all of it, and so incredibly excited to start really transforming my teaching and learning environment! (More to come on this one too...) I've started using Mail Chimp for my newsletters and I love it! It's really easy to make a template and edit it each week. I can schedule when I want it emailed to parents and link a copy to my classroom website. I'm just getting started with my template, but it works for now. I'm hoping to jazz it up a bit more, create a snappy heading image, and add a few more features. Baby steps... (Are you noticing a clip art theme?) Math Quest!! This is my second year using Math Quest! My kiddos love it! We had a bit of a rocky start with our first problem solving strategy, Guess and Check. This week, we're working on Drawing a Picture and it is going MUCH better. I think they needed a bit of time to gain confidence and figure out that they CAN do it! The teams are really pulling together and digging into their problems each day! If you want to learn more about Math Quest, check out this post from my amazing friend Christy. If you don't follow her, you should. I want to be her when I grow up. Really. I'm not kidding. She's that awesome. This is a BIG one! HUGE! COLOSSAL! There isn't even a big enough word for it! My husband is the best husband on the planet! For my birthday, he has gifted me with a visit to The Ron Clark Academy!! EEEEEK!! I'm so excited I can barely contain myself! (Is there a limit to exclamation points that can be used in one post?) As you've probably noticed from my current reading list, I'm all about transforming my teaching and learning environment. I'm reading my way through Ron Clark's books and following many of his teachers on various social media sites. I've been talking and talking (and talking) about the amazing things going on within those walls. I've been scheming and dreaming ways that I could get there. And, guess what!! My hubs was listening (and listening and listening)! Not only is he sending me to this place where I will learn and grow, but he is coming with me (to Atlanta). We will have our first kid-free few days together since before our almost two-year old was born. (This is why I've been dead to the professional development world...and to the world in general. I love that baby more than just about anything, but she is what we call "high needs" and is just now starting to allow Mommy a few free moments to peek at blogs and read and write.) I have to wait until March, BUT THAT'S JUST FINE WITH ME! I'd wait just about forever to have an opportunity like this. And while I think the actual gift is just about as good as it could possibly get, the real gift is that he is supporting me and my dreams. I couldn't possibly be luckier.
What a week! I'm pretty sure my feet will come back down to the ground at some point, but for now I'm just going to float off to bed and dream about the incredible things to come...
